During Mr. Schaech's final year of law school he served as a judical law clerk in the Court of Special Appeals, 1988-1989, for the Honorable Richard P. Gilbert (deceased) , Chief Judge, Court of Special Appeals. His duties included intense legal research, preparing unoffical opinions of the court for the courts review and editing and updating the Judges personal cases by catagory. While serving as Judge Gilbert's law clerk, Mr. Schaech assisted the judge in over 100 cases. These cases included Tito Summer v. State of Maryland; PEPCO v. Montgomery County; Yale Rudo v. Lois Karp; Gamole v. State of Maryland.
In September of 1990, Mr Schaech joined the prestigious Towson law firm of Russell White & Richard Karceski. While with White & Karceski, Mr. Schaech gained invaluable knowledge of trial strategy, pre-trial motions, jury selections and opening and closing statements in both criminal and civil cases.
Armed with this knowledge, Mr. Schaech partnered with Charles Wagner (deceased) to form the firm of Wagner and Schaech located in Bel Air, MD. The firm practiced areas were criminal law, dui/dwi, auto accidents, and workers compensation. In 1999, Mr. Schaech left Wagner and Schaech. He then joined the Office of the Public Defender, Felony Trial Division, Baltimore. During his tenure with the OPD, Mr. Schaech tried multiple murder cases, shaken baby cases, Arson cases, rape cases and handled well over four hundred (400) posession with intent to distribute and distribution of CDS. After 13 years with the OPD, Mr. Schaech again entered private practice in 2014 Opening the Law Office of L. Michael Schaech in Historic Havre de Grace. Having his office in Havre de Grace affords both Mr. Schaech and his clients a chance to get away from the hustle and bussel of busy business surrounding. Mr. Schaech practices in All Maryland Counties Including Baltimore City and Ocean City.
While being in Havre de Grace, Mr. Schaech has represented clients from Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado, and Massachusetts.
